The Humanitarian Worker Wellness Inventory (HWWI)

Thank you for your interest in the Humanitarian Worker Wellness Inventory.

For More information about the development of the HWWI see this executive summary:

The HWWI can be used as a self assessment, or by a counselor who would like a snapshot of an individual's wellness.   The HWWI is designed to be used by managers to email ahead of their field visits so that they can be talking about important issues while they interact.  Another strategic use is for debriefing adults as they return from field service to their country of origin.  Some organizations utilize the HWWI to assist their staff to work on a personal wellness plan to go along with their annual ministry planning.  The HWWI also works well as a tool for marital counseling as it can be filled out and printed and brought into the session.  The HWWI is meant to provide a model for wellness for the person taking the assessment as much as giving a snapshot of their wellness.  The hope is people will say, "That's a wellness item?" "I could do more of that."

For the youth version of this see the Missionary Kid Wellness Inventory

A note from the editor of the Brigada (www.brigada.org/) newsletter:  "This new version is improved in several ways, including the fact that it’s now easier to print-and-carry (so you can work in the field without a computer, if needed). I can’t figure out a reason why on-field member care workers would *not* want to use this tool to assist cross-cultural workers (of all kinds) in adapting and living effectively overseas. It’s exceptionally well done. Thanks Phil!"
